Aaron Hernandez Moved After Authorities Discover Shank In Prison Cell

Aaron Hernandez was moved into a segregated unit at Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Mass. due to finding a shank-like weapon in his cell during shakedown, reports say.

Guards found the prison-made knife during a search of his cell, according to WHDH.com. He was immediately taken out of general population.

The Massachusetts Department of Corrections did not comment.

Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end, is serving a life sentence in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

This isn’t the first time Hernandez has had issues in prison. In 2014, Hernandez was indicted in an alleged jail assault while being moved from an infirmary at the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, Mass. He had exchanged words with an inmate and punched him, knocking the other prisoner to the ground. Hernandez was injured in the fight.

And in May, CNN reported that Hernandez had agreed to be on the lookout for one prisoner who went into another prisoner’s cell at the correctional center. The two inmates fought. All three inmates were disciplined, and Hernandez was placed in a special management section.

Hernandez is also scheduled to go on trial for a double-murder in Boston in 2012. That trial is scheduled to start in January.

Hernandez has an extensive criminal history. He was found guilty earlier this year of first-degree murder and all weapons charges in the murder of Lloyd, where Lloyd was found in an industrial park with multiple gunshot wounds. Hernandez was arrested on June 26, 2013, and the Patriots released him shortly after his arrest. Two other associates, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, were arrested two days later. He was found guilty earlier this year in a much-publicized trial.
