On July 16, 2012 in Boston, two men were shot and killed when an SUV pulled up to their stopped car and fired multiple shots.
A survivor of the incident, Raychides Sanches, identified the shooter as ex-footballer Aaron Hernandez. Sanches and fellow survivor Aquilino Freire claim they had bumped into Hernandez at a club that night, and Hernandez had followed them in his car.
At a hearing in Suffolk Superior Court, when asked who the shooter was, Sanches nodded toward Hernandez and said, “Looked like him, Hernandez.” Freire confirmed that the man was light skinned with no beard, but tattoos. Hernandez faces two counts of murder for the deaths of Daniel de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, who were killed that night.
Hernandez is already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of semi-pro footballer Odin Lloyd. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to these new charges.
A second hearing will take place Dec. 27.
