A Truck Full Of Lemons Overturns Causing Citrus Chaos On New Jersey Highway
A tractor full of lemons overturned after crashing on Wednesday around 10 a.m. on a highway in New Jersey. This resulted in the lemons being thrown off the truck and strewn all over the highway.
Police arrived near Mountainside Avenue on Route 17 North in New Jersey after multiple people called 911. It was reported that the truck stuck another car and the truck’s cab was blocking all of the northbound lanes.
The driver explained to officers that as he was driving he felt the load of the lemons shift and attempted to correct it. He accidentally caused the trailer of the truck to dislodge and shift over to the southbound lanes. This resulted in the citrus fruit flying from the truck onto the road.
The Mahwah police issued a press release about the incident stating, “The driver of the tractor trailer, from Ontario, Canada, stated that he was hauling a truck load of lemons; which were subsequently thrown across the highway as a result of the crash.”
The crash caused quite a bit of traffic, as Route 17 North had to close while an investigation of the accident took place. The highway was expected to be closed for multiple hours, but it was reopened around 6 p.m.
The truck driver and the vehicle driver both had to be taken to the hospital as they sustained injuries, but they are both expected to make a full recovery.
