Rapper and actor 50 Cent will have to pay Lastonia Leviston an additional $2 million dollars for posting her sex tape online.
On Friday, a jury at Manhattan Supreme Court determined that 50 Cent, in addition to the $5 million he was already ordered to pay, should have to pay $2 million more, according to the New York Daily News. 50 Cent’s lawyers had recommended a $700,000 payout for punitive damages, while Leviston’s lawyers had asked for a $15 million reward.
Though Leviston did not get as much as she had hoped, she was pleased with the result. “I’ve been served justice by the courts and vindicated by God,” Leviston said after hearing the decision, adding of 50 Cent who filed for bankruptcy last week, “I hope he learned a lesson.”
Explaining how the jury came to decision, juror Tom Evans said that they had decided to strike a balance between what everyone had wanted. “We had to compromise,” Evans said. “Some wanted (to award) more, some wanted less.”
Fifty, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, plans to get the $2 million reduced, according to his lawyer James Renard.
“Although we appreciate the jury’s service, we are disappointed in the result,” Renard said. “Our client intends to file post-verdict, pre-judgment motions which we believe should reduce the size of the award.”
