5 Seconds Of Summer’s Michael Clifford Suffers Burns After Catching Fire Mid-Performance

Michael Clifford of 5 Seconds of Summer suffered burns on his face after his hair caught on fire during the band’s concert on Saturday.

#GETWELLSOONMICHAEL: 5SOS’s Micheal Clifford Catches On Fire

Clifford, who plays guitar in the punk pop band, was injured mid-performance at London’s Webly Arena. 5SOS was playing their hit “She Looks So Perfect” when Clifford accidentally ventured a bit too closely to the pyrotechnics, causing his hair to catch fire. In fan-captured video of the incident, Clifford is seen immediately backing away, clutching his head and walking offstage.

The show momentarily paused before bandmember Ashton Irwin addressed the crowd and announced that they couldn’t continue the show. “Michael has hurt himself so we will not be continuing the show right now. Just wanted to say thank you so much for coming. He is okay. You guys have been the best crowd we could ask for tonight. Thank you so much,” he told the crowd.

Clifford later reached out to fans on Twitter, showing off his fresh bandages and apologizing for not being able to finish the show. “Sorry I couldn’t finish the encore, but at least I look like two face. Thanks for worrying [everyone],” Clifford wrote.

Clifford also received well wishes from some famous friends, including Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan of One Direction.

One day after the incident, Clifford was back performing with the band for their third London performance.

“Michael is recovering well after being given the all clear by doctors. He will join the band on stage tonight at The SSE Arena for their third and final London show. Michael and the band would like to thank all the fans, well wishers and particularly last night’s audience for their support. There will be no pyrotechnic production for the show this evening,” said a 5SOS spokesperson on Sunday.
