Comedian Rosie O’Donnell, whose has had a long-time feud with Donald Trump, tweeted a video speculating that the President-elect’s youngest son, Barron Trump, may be autistic. Along with the footage, O’Donnell included a message stating, “Barron Trump Autistic? if so, what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic.”
The seven-minute video O’Donnell shared contains “evidence” that Donald and Melania Trump’s youngest son is on the autism spectrum. It includes footage of Barron at the Republican National Convention, where he was filmed clapping without touching his hands together. The creator of the video claims that Barron makes “strange movements,” “walks wobbly,” and engages in “anti-social behavior,” all of which can be symptoms of autism.
Some of O’Donnell’s Twitter followers accused her of “attacking” Barron Trump by bringing more attention to the video. Many criticized O’Donnell for speculating about something so personal.
O’Donnell responded to criticism of the Barron Trump autism video by making it clear that she didn’t create it; she simply decided to share it because “it resonated” with her. She agreed with a follower who tweeted that there’s “no shame in having an autistic child,” and O’Donnell tried to convince her critics that she has nothing against Barron Trump by praising the boy.
