Although Hugh Jackman has just recently finished out his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise film Logan, the show will still go on. 20th Century Fox has confirmed that three new X-Men installments are in the works, including one that will revisit Jean Grey’s Dark Phoenix story line.

Dark Phoenix, the tentative title for the film, will be released on November 2, 2018 after being teased in the most recent X-Men film, X-Men: Apocalypse. Jean Grey, who is now portrayed by Sophia Turner, unleashed the Phoenix in order to defeat Apocalypse’s villain, Doom (Oscar Isaac). Dark Phoenix will explore this new power, one that Grey is unable to control.

New Mutants, another film in the works, will explore a new set of mutants who join up to fight in a team similar to the original X-Men, as the title suggests. It is scheduled to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.

Also getting a confirmed release date was Deadpool 2, which will be released on July 1, 2018. A teaser for the movie was shown before Logan.

The Dark Phoenix story line was explored in the third movie of the franchise, X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). At the time, Famke Janssen played Jean Grey. It was also the first film in the franchise that Bryan Singer did not direct. He returned to the franchise for X-Men: Days of Future Past and revitalized the struggling franchise.

Singer has not confirmed that he will direct Dark Phoenix but he has expressed regret in the past for not finishing out the trilogy. Simon Kinberg, who has written and produced many of the X-Men films, will be doing the same for Dark Phoenix and has also expressed interest in directing.

Josh Boone, the director of The Fault in Our Stars, will direct New Mutants although very little more is known about the film.
