2018 SAG Awards: ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ Wins Big [WINNERS LIST]

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was the big winner at Sunday’s SAG Awards, picking up three prizes for best performance by an actress and actor, and best performance by a cast in a theatrical motion picture.

SAG AWARD WINNERS

HBO’s Big Little Lies won the most for the TV awards, while The Handmaid’s Tale was surprisingly shut out. This awards season has been encircled by sexual harassment and assault controversies, and many actors and actresses are speaking out in their acceptance speeches.

Aziz Ansari did not even attend the event, despite being nominated for best actor in a comedy series. He lost to William H. Macy of Shameless. Ansari was recently called out for sexual harassment, in one of the most polarizing accounts of sexual harassment yet. James Franco, also accused of assault, did attend, and lost to Gary Oldman.

Oldman, in fact, had never won a SAG Award, and was clearly emotional by his win. Same goes for Nicole Kidman, who took home a statue for Big Little Lies. As for other firsts, Kristen Bell became the very first host of the SAG Awards, which have never enlisted an emcee before. While her part in the evening was small, she gave a monologue with a good mix of politics and industry humor.

“There has never been a host for this award show before. It’s the first time. First person. First lady… I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyberbullying because I have yet to see any progress made on that problem quite yet,” Bell said, poking fun at Melania Trump‘s initiative. She then followed up with a joke about Veep actor Tony Hale: “I’m looking at you, Tony Hale. You’re a bully! Guys, he is a savage on Twitter.”

The actress ended her monologue on a more serious note. “Everyone’s story deserves to be told, especially now,” she said. “We are living in a watershed moment in time. And as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure we are leading the charge with empathy and diligence, because fear and anger never win the race.”
