2 Women Come Forward With New Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct Against R. Kelly

At least two women have contacted the Cook County’s State Attorney’s Office since Wednesday afternoon to report new accusations against R. Kelly.

This comes after Kim Foxx’s public plea for potential victims to come forward on Tuesday evening. She said that she was “sickened” by allegations detailed in the Lifetime television series Surviving R. Kelly,  but that she could not open a criminal probe without victims and witnesses.

Kelly, who has faced sexual misconduct allegations for two decades has not been charged with any crimes since being acquitted from child pornography charges in 2008.

On Wednesday, two women contacted the Chicago Sun-Times and spoke about their alleged experiences with Kelly. The women revealed that they were victims of inappropriate conduct in the hands of Kelly, one at her grandmother’s home on the South Side in the mid-1980s and the other at the R&B singer’s studio space in 2002.

The two women said that they had called the number that Foxx publicized on Tuesday evening and had left messages after their calls went straight to voicemail.

Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office confirmed the calls but did not reveal how many calls they received in relation to Kelly since Foxx’s plea.

“We can confirm that the office has received calls related to this matter. We are in the process of reviewing and following up on these calls and have no additional information to provide at this time,” Simonton said in a statement.

Hours after the women contacted the prosecutors, over 30 people showed up across the street from Kelly’s studio to demonstrate. The group which consisted of mostly women showed up in support for Kelly’s accusers and chanted “black girls matter.”

On Wednesday in an interview with WGN, Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg said that no one in Chicago has come forward with accusations against Kelly because he hadn’t done anything illegal.

“There are no underage women, there is no sex cult, it’s all some reality TV made up story,” Greenberg told WGN. “No one has ever seen any evidence of it. There are no photos of him with these women. There’s no anything.”

On Tuesday Greenberg also blasted Foxx during her press conference.

“I don’t think Kim Foxx should be giving any legitimacy to reality TV allegations,” he said. “The lead prosecutor should be silent until there’s evidence . . . She essentially went up there and said, ‘We have no evidence of a crime, but if someone would like to make something up, please call us.’”

“No one here has reported a crime. There’s no evidence of anything. You can’t disprove something that didn’t happen,” he continued.

Surviving R. Kelly details more than two decades of sexual assault allegations, including accusations of Kelly trying to lure young women to join a sex cult.
