2 Chainz could be putting a pause on his rapping career to enter politics and run for mayor of his hometown of College Park, Georgia.

2 Chainz Considers Run For Mayor Of His Hometown College Park

2 Chainz, 37, has been floating the idea in various interviews this week, saying he’s just waiting to have “the qualifications.”

“I’m a musician, not a politician. I’m supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing. I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications,” he told XXL.

The news comes after a clip of the rapper debating the legalization of marijuana with HLN’s Nancy Grace went viral.

While 2 Chainz appears to have unofficially kicked off a campaign for mayor, College Park’s current mayor Jack Longino, has dismissed any of 2 Chainz’s political aspirations. “I didn’t know who he was…I’m a country-western guy. I don’t listen to the rap,” Longino said of 2 Chainz.

Longino even went so far as to claim that the rapper doesn’t even live in College Park. According to The Daily Beast, 2 Chainz is registered to vote in the neighboring town of Palmetto.

“I truly and sincerely do not believe that he lives in College Park,” Longino said. “[If he] actually lives in College Park and wants to run and signs up, we’ll let the people decide.”

As for 2 Chainz’s actual political beliefs, the rapper has said he prefers not to identify with either party, but is an Obama supporter. “I just try to do what’s right whether it’s a Republican or a Democrat. But I definitely voted for Obama,” he told The Huffington Post in 2013.
