Sarah Darling on How I Became A Musician by Uinterview
Sarah Darling, the country music singer and songwriter, became known to many when she was a top-three finalist on E! The Entertainer in 2003. She was also a contestant on ABC’s Rising Star in 2014. She wrote the song “Knowing What I Know About Heaven,” recorded and released by Guy Penrod.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Darling opens up about what drew her to music in the first place, and what singing provides for her.
“I really got into music when I was quite young. My mom said I was always singing,” Darling told uInterview. “Actually my parents got divorced when I was around six, and music became a beautiful outlet for me to just kind of find safety.”
“I felt like the most wonderful place is to sit in my room and actually sing Mariah Carey songs. Music Box was my favorite album, and I would put it on repeat and sing it,” the singer said.
Country music in particular holds a special meaning for Darling, and she was inspired by a particular artist.
“Shania Twain came out, I think it was maybe 2014, and that’s when I found the connection of what I wanted to do,” she said. “There was something about seeing Shania Twain, seeing the video, and this female empowerment of country music. I just fell in love with it, and that’s how I got started with loving country music.”
The video was also how Darling got the idea to move to Nashville, which she did a few years later.
