During his run on The Voice, which saw him become coach Christina Aguilera‘s “last man standing,” Duron often drew comparisons to contemporary crooner Michael Bublé. While Duron doesn’t plan on shedding that reputation altogether, he wants fans to know his album will have a modern edge to it.
“I’m trying to make [the album] a little bit younger, a little bit different than what [Buble] is doing, but definitely influenced by Sinatra and that whole gang,” Duron told uInterview in an exclusive interview. “It’s going to be young and fresh, new takes on that kind of stuff.”
“I’m excited about it,” Duron added.
Though Duron isn’t still in contact with Aguilera, he has no shortage of gratitude for what she did for him during The Voice, and after his run on the singing competition show ended.
“She was the sweetest when we were on the show. So encouraging,” Duron said. “Even after the show we had a couple talks where she really encouraged me to carry on…. She gave me so many tips on how to make a moment last, how to make a moment worth it and really just kill a song.”
Prior to auditioning on The Voice, Duron was studying and playing football at Yale University. He left the Ivy League school to pursue his dream of making it in music, a dream that was inspired by his upbringing in his father’s church.
“I’m a pastor’s kid, so I grew up in church, and so just got thrown up on stage at a really young age,” Duron said, adding that his mother wrote children’s songs that he equated to something like “Christian Barney.” What is Christian Barney? “It’s songs like, “I Won’t Yell At You, Please Don’t Yell At Me,” “I’m Allergic to Griping,” “It’s Not Fun If It’s Not Fun For Everybody,” laughed Duron.
Most recently Duron combined his love of music and love for his Christian upbringing to release a Christmas single, covering the holiday classic, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.”
