Guy Fieri & Bill Murray To Compete In Nacho Making Competition To Raise Money For Unemployed Restaurant Workers

Guy Fieri and Bill Murray plan to compete in a live nacho-making competition to raise money for the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, an organization that supports unemployed restaurant professionals due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The event, Nacho Average Showdown will feature both Fieri and Murray, along with respective sons, Hunter Fieri and Homer Murray, who is also a chef and restauranteur. 

Tostitos will be sponsoring the event on Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m. where Fieri and Murray will have their nachos judged by Terry Crews and Shaquille O’Neal. The Food Network host, Carla Hall will emcee the event which will be broadcasted on The Food Network’s Facebook page.

According to data form the National Restaurant Association, 8 million restaurant workers have been left without jobs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund was created by Fieri and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation in March. In a press release about the Nacho Average Showdown, Fieri explained his motivation for starting the organization “From bussing tables to flambé captain to dishwasher to chef … I have done it all,” he said. “I’ve also spent the better part of the last 15 years traveling this great country meeting other folks who’ve dedicated their lives to this business, and let me tell you something, they are the hardest working, most real deal workers you’ve ever met … the heartbeats of their communities.”

The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund has provided the restaurant workers that have lost their jobs with $500 grants. Over 50 companies and organizations have helped the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund to raise over $22 million. All the money that is collected through the Nacho Average Showdown will go towards the cause and viewers can donate to the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund via a donate button on The Food Network’s Facebook page.
