Conservative Activist Alex Jones Protests Against Coronavirus Lockdown In Texas
Thousands of conservative activists, including the popular right-wing radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, gathered around Texas Capitol building on Saturday and chanted “Fire Fauci.”
“Texas is leading the way against the tyrants,” said Jones during his short address.
Protestors rallied against the lockdown orders and demanded Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, step down from his office.
The crowd repeatedly shouted “Fire Fauci,” a phrase that is also a viral hashtag among Trump supporters.
Fauci, who has been a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, has voiced some opposing views to President Donald Trump regarding his COVID-19 actions.
Earlier this month, when Trump suggested hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, for COVID-19, Fauci stated that the drug’s effect hadn’t been proven “in terms of science.”
Several similar protests have also started across the country.
Trump tweeted on Saturday that state in lockdown should “LIBERATE” themselves.
Jones recently had to admit that he made up stories about the Sandy Hook school massacre.
