Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live featured a sketch about the awkward art of giving generic gifts to random acquaintances.
Emma Stone, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon аppeared in the funny Christmas song. Candles, the gift people give when they have run out of ideas, were the subject of the song. The video shows one candle re-gifted again and again, usually disappointing the receiver of the gift.
“Thank you candle, the one true candle, the candle we all get then give away,” the chorus proclaims.
The music video was made in the nostalgic style of the 90s and showed the candle being re-gifted around the world.
The song gives viewers some invaluable advice, namely: do not pair the candle with another gift.
“When you give a candle that is all that she needs, don’t pair it with the lotion or some little cream, a lot of people think two gifts are better than one, but that just makes each seem smaller and dumb,” Bryant sang.
“So just give the candle, don’t overthink the candle, it’s passed to every single woman and most gays…. it’s the gift of having a gift to give away, the gift of having a gift to give away,” concluded the song.
