For the final episode of the season, Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” sketch featured series regular Leslie Jones fighting back against Alabama’s new abortion ban.
To open the sketch, Jones introduced herself wearing a red Handmaid’s Tale costume. However, she didn’t remain in the costume long and instantly removed it to show the black t-shirt that she was wearing, which said “MINE” on the front of it and has an arrow pointing down.
“A bunch of states are trying to ban abortion, and then tell me what I can and can’t do with my body,” Jones said. Jones then made a reference to how this could be similar to a situation of going into a Starbucks and being told her credit card could not be taken because she is a woman, as opposed to the actual reason being that she doesn’t have any credit.

Jones then pulled out a picture of the 25 senators in Alabama who voted yes on this abortion law, all of whom were white men. “This looks like the mug shots of everyone arrested at a massage party,” Jones said.
Jones questioned how the female governor of Alabama felt signing the bill into law. “When women have a choice, women want freedom,” Jones said.
“The fact that nine states are doing this means that this really is a war on women and if you’re a woman out there and you feel scared and confused, just know you are not alone,” Jones said.
Jones closed the segment, saying, “You can’t tell me what to do with my body. You can’t make me small or put me in a box.”
