Jimmy Kimmel Asks Kids To Explain Gay Marriage: See Their Cute Responses

Jimmy Kimmel questioned kids on Monday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! about what they knew about gay marriage in light of the Supreme Courts marriage equality ruling—their responses are adorable and super sophisticated.

JIMMY KIMMEL ASKS KIDS EXPLAIN GAY MARRIAGE

Kimmel’s idea for the segment was inspired by one of the most common arguments you hear from those who oppose marriage equality, “How do I explain this to my kids?”

“Some people wonder if children are sophisticated enough to wrap their heads around something like this, so we went out on the street to ask kids what they think and know about same-sex marriage,” the show’s host said. Most of the kids interviewed for the segment not only proved that they were capable and “sophisticated” enough to understand what gay marriage is, but they also gave some points on when exactly people should get married.

“Because they love each other and they just feel a connection,” stated one boy when asked why would anyone want to get married. Elsewhere in the video, another boy commented that being pregnant would be an appropriate reason to get married.

Another girl remained completely confident when answering what gay marriage is. “When a boy and a boy get married and when a girl and a girl get married,” the little girl said. When asked whether gay marriage is hard to understand, she responded, “For some kids!” She then went on explaining that anyone should be able to get married—if they’re old enough that is.

The last boy interviewed commented that gay marriage isn’t the right term for when a woman marries another woman, but “lesbianism” is. He also said that marriage should be for anyone, but then stated his own reasons why marriage isn’t for him: “Because when you get married, the other person is entitled to any money the other person has.”
