Controversial mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor visited President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to mark St Patrick’s Day on Monday. Earlier in the day, McGregor took questions from reporters at the White House briefing room, where he said he was in Washington to “raise the issues the people of Ireland face.” “It’s high time that America is made aware of what is going on in Ireland. What is going on in Ireland is a travesty,” McGregor added, citing Irish policies toward immigration. A court found McGregor liable for a 2018 rape; he was ordered to pay the victim of his assault, Nikita Hand, almost €250,000 ($263,000). Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris said that McGregor “doesn’t speak for the people of Ireland” in response to his planned meeting with Trump. Trump cited McGregor as one of his favorite Irish people during a meeting with Irish Taoiseach Michael Martin on March 12.
