Meryl Streep and Martin Short have reportedly been in a romantic relationship for over a year, a development that has surprised both themselves – and their numerous fans. The two actors, aged 75 and 74 respectively, were not seeking a relationship but found a deep connection while working together on the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building.

A shared sense of humor and mutual respect has characterized their relationship. A source close to the couple revealed, “Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin. He is a gentleman; he keeps her laughing and is an all-around positive person.”

Both Streep and Short have experienced major personal losses in the past. Streep and her husband of 40 years, sculptor Don Gummer, separated in 2017. Prior to that, she cared for her partner, actor John Cazale, until his death from lung cancer in 1978.

Short was married to actress Nancy Dolman for three decades until her death from ovarian cancer in 2010. These shared experiences of loss have reportedly strengthened their bond.

Despite their high-profile careers, the couple has maintained a relatively low-profile, attending events together without making official comments about their relationship. They have been spotted together at various public outings, including attending a Broadway show and the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary taping in New York City.

Their friends and family, including their children, are said to support their relationship entirely. Streep and Short are currently content with dating and have no plans to marry.

Representatives for both actors have not commented on the relationship.
