Woman Arrested In Connection With Telemundo Journalist Adan Manzano’s Drugging Death While Covering The Super Bowl
An arrest has been made in the death of the Super Bowl journalist Adan Manzano, 27, who mysteriously died in his New Orleans hotel room on Wednesday afternoon, February 5.
Manzano, a Telemundo Kansas City reporter working on his third Super Bowl, was found dead when he did not show up to work on Wednesday.
Security footage shows Manzano and Danette Colbert entering a hotel room together at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Colbert left the room soon after but returned again before leaving again at 6 a.m.
Colbert is known to police as a “career criminal” who has a history of drugging men, and records show that after leaving Manzano’s hotel room, she proceeded to use his credit cards around town.
Colbert was arrested on Thursday night and has so far only been charged with property crime charges and fraud, with authorities saying her charges may be upgraded after the coroner performs an autopsy on Manzano.
Colbert was found with drugs and an illegal firearm on her when she was arrested. The gun is seemingly not tied to Manzano’s death, though the coroner’s findings will determine the relevance of the drugs.
The police chief said of Colbert, 48, “She plays a confidence game…she’s definitely a career criminal. All her crimes are…access to vice, frauds, simple robberies, thefts, things of that nature.”
Colbert was previously arrested for allegedly drugging a man and stealing $50,000 from him in 2022 on the Las Vegas Strip. She was arrested near a school in Nevada that same summer for speeding at 100 miles an hour. A year later, she was arrested for drugging someone in New Orleans.
Earlier this week, Manzano interviewed high-profile NFL players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In a post to Instagram on Monday, Manzano wrote, “The teams, the emotion and all the stories surrounding this great event where the Chiefs seek the long-awaited three-time championship begin here.”
Manzano’s wife was killed in a car crash last year, and Manzano leaves behind their daughter, Eleanor.
