Following his arrest in April, country singer-songwriter Morgan Wallen has received his sentence.

The incident, which took place in Nashville on the roof of the bar Chief’s, saw a drunken Wallen throw a chair down six stories. The falling furniture narrowly missed hitting two police officers.

On Thursday, Wallen, who pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor reckless endangerment charges, was sentenced to one week of incarceration at a DUI education center and two years of probation, as well as a $350 fine.

The offense can be erased from his record if he so wishes, as he pleaded guilty to his charges in accordance with “judicial diversion,” a statute that allows offenders to “petition the court to expunge all public record” of their offenses.

In a victorious statement, Worrick Robinson, Wallen’s defense attorney, clarified, “Upon the successful completion of [Wallen’s] probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement.” He continued, “Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved. Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”

Wallen first addressed the incident on April 19, nearly two weeks after the incident occurred on April 7. In a statement posted to his X account, he explained, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s.”

He wrote, “I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility,” asserting, “I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.”

Wallen concluded the post with the note, “Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”

Indeed, Wallen’s June 2024 tour, One Night at a Time, was not affected by Wallen’s incident in April.

As this news broke, many internet users pointed out that Wallen’s punishment was relatively weak, considering the degree of harm he could have caused, and speculated on the difference in the treatment of celebrities and ordinary individuals.

In 2021, Wallen was in the news when he was caught on tape using a racial slur in a viral video.
