Elon Musk Teases Purchase Of Liberal Nemesis MSNBC With Provocative ‘Temptation’ Meme
Elon Musk has sparked speculation after sharing a provocative meme suggesting he might purchase MSNBC following reports that Comcast plans to spin off the liberal cable network.
The tech billionaire, known for his love of memes and unconventional business moves, shared the post on his X platform (formerly Twitter).
“And lead us not into temptation…,” Musk, 53, wrote alongside a meme featuring a priest struggling to resist temptation next to a woman exposing herself. In the image, the priest was labeled “Elon Musk trying not to buy,” while an MSNBC logo was placed over the woman’s bottom.
The bawdy meme is a callback to a similar joke Musk made two years ago, with a different text overlay, poking fun at Donald Trump’s temptation to return to Twitter.
Musk’s post comes amid news that Comcast, MSNBC’s parent company, is exploring a spinoff of several of its cable channels, including CNBC, Oxygen, E!, Syfy and the Golf Channel, into a new company tentatively named SpinCo. The potential shakeup has fueled uncertainty within MSNBC, with insiders describing a tense atmosphere.
Donald Trump Jr. also joked about Musk buying the network. “Hey @elonmusk, I have the funniest idea ever!!!” he wrote on X.
“The most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely,” Musk replied.
Joe Rogan also joined the conversation, volunteering to take over Rachel Maddow’s job.
“If you buy MSNBC, I would like Rachael Maddow’s job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses and tell the same lies,” Rogan wrote. Musk responded, “Deal.”
While Musk’s comments appear to be in jest, his track record raises eyebrows. The billionaire previously joked about buying Twitter before making a $44 billion purchase of the platform in 2022. In 2017, he asked on Twitter, “How much is it?” before finally acquiring the social media giant five years later.
Twitter has lost 79% of its value since Musk’s purchase, according to its investors.
With an estimated net worth of $348 billion, Musk has the financial capacity to purchase MSNBC, though the suggestion currently appears to be a joke.
