Liberal Icon Susan Sarandon Claims She’s Been Blacklisted In Hollywood For Making Anti-Israel Comments At Pro-Palestinian Rally
Actress Susan Sarandon claimed that her remarks at a pro-Palestinian protest last year have led to her being blacklisted in Hollywood.
At the event, the Oscar winner stated that Jews are “getting a taste of how it feels to be Muslim in America” after the Hamas terror attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
In a new interview, Sarandon, 78, opened up about how her past comments impacted her career.
“I was dropped by my agency, my projects were pulled,” she said. “I’ve been used as an example of what not to do if you want to continue to work.”
She continued, “There are so many people out of work right now [since] November of last year … who have lost their jobs as custodians, as writers, as painters, as people working in the cafeteria, substitute teachers who have been fired because they tweeted something, or liked a tweet, or asked for a ceasefire.”
Sarandon was uncertain when asked if she ever thought she would land a prominent role in Hollywood again, saying, “I don’t know. I don’t expect anything from Hollywood.”
After the backlash, the actress issued an apology.
In an Instagram post, Sarandon said, “I deeply regret diminishing this reality and hurting people with this comment. It was my intent to show solidarity in the struggle against bigotry of all kinds, and I am sorry I failed to do so.”
“I will continue my commitment to peace, truth, justice and compassion for all people. I hope that we can meet with love and willingness to engage in dialogue, especially with those with whom we disagree,” she added.
Despite the setbacks Sarandon has faced, she continues to advocate for Palestinian rights, calling for an end to violence in the region. She has since spoken out against Israel at several Palestine protests earlier this year.
