Emergency services in Valencia, Spain, were working “24 hours a day” to rescue people from flooding following a destructive storm on Tuesday night, Oct. 29, that killed at least 161 people, the Unidad Militar de Emergencias said.

Footage released by UME shows emergency services airlifting a woman to safety from a flooded area in the province of Valencia. It also shows rescuers wading through chest-high floodwaters and working to remove excessive mud from affected areas.

UME said that “more than 1,000 men and women” from the Spanish Armed Forces were active in the Valencia flood area to support the residents.

Earlier videos showed rescue workers airlifting a man and his pets trapped in his flooded home.
