A Colorado sheriff’s office put its horses through some “creepy” Halloween training to help them avoid getting frightened by scary displays or costumes during the annual festivities on Oct. 31.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said three members of its Mounted Patrol unit participated in eight hours of training during which they were exposed to “scary scenes… to help them work on being calm in different scenarios.”

“They were curious with all the cackling and movements. The Mounted Unit also worked through smoke and then eventually turned off the lights to simulate what the horses might come across on Halloween while conducting patrols,” the sheriff’s office said.
