VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: U.S. Olympic Artistic Swimmer Megumi Field Aims For Gold in Paris
Megumi Field, a top U.S. artistic swimmer, is feeling positive as she and her team get ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics. She talked about how well the team is doing, their hopes for the Olympics, and her own journey in the sport.
“We’re definitely gaining momentum,” Field told uInterview. “Our first medal was in Japan, and it was the first one we’ve won in 16 years. It was just like, ‘Whoa.’”
This big win has given the team a boost, and they have been working hard to get better both physically and mentally for the Olympics.
When asked about what the team can achieve in Paris, Field was very confident. “I think our team can achieve anything. We’ll see what happens at the Olympics, but I think anything is possible,” she said. Field stressed the importance of staying focused and doing what they practice. Their recent successes have also brought more attention and support from people in the U.S., which is exciting for the team. “It’s exciting scrolling through TikTok and seeing people recognize me or my teammates,” she added.
Field also talked about the challenge of competing against strong teams like China. “We’ve, as a team, especially in the last two competitions, focused on not caring about anyone else. Not looking at their DD, not looking at them at all,” she explained. But she admitted that seeing China’s tough training can be inspiring and shows a different way to succeed.
Field shared how she got into artistic swimming. “I loved swimming and chlorine from the first second I was brought into the world. My mom grew up knowing about synchro from watching it on Japanese TV, so she was just like, ‘why don’t you try it?’ And here we are.”
Field’s love and dedication to the sport have been clear throughout her career. She was born in Pasadena, California, and started artistic swimming at a young age. Her mother’s Japanese background introduced her to the sport, and she quickly fell in love with it. Field has become a key member of the U.S. team, known for her technical skill and artistic performance in the water.
The U.S. artistic swimming team, led by head coach Andrea Fuentes, has made great progress in recent years. Fuentes, a former Spanish artistic swimmer and Olympic medalist, has brought lots of experience and new ideas to the team. With Field and her teammates’ hard work, the team is ready for a strong performance in Paris.
