Trump Says Democratic Montana Sen. Jon Tester ‘Looks Pregnant,’ Critics Call Out ‘Hypocrisy’

Former President Donald Trump mocked Democratic Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-Montana) weight, stating that he “looks pregnant.”

Trump made these remarks on May 4 during a private fundraising event at his Mar-a-Lago resort for Rep. Ronnie Jackson (R-Texas), who had been the former president’s White House physician. Tester helped torpedo Jackson’s nomination for Veteran’s Secretary during the Trump administration.

“He’s now in a tough campaign, and he could very well lose,” Trump stated about Tester.  “We ought to go up and campaign against him. In fact, I looked at him and I said, ‘Oh, this finally works for a man or woman, because he looks pregnant to me.'”

The audience laughed as the former president kept speaking.

“Have you seen this guy? He doesn’t look like a fat guy, except his stomach is out to here,” Trump mentioned while making hand gestures. “Not that I talk about things like that. I don’t even notice them.”

Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita added to his boss’s comments. 

“Well, according to the left, men can,” LaCivita stated. “So where is the controversy?”

Jackson lauded the former president’s remarks. 

“I thank President Trump for reminding the audience how critical this election is and to vote out two-faced, Far Left candidates like Jon Tester,” the Texas representative stated.

Many X users called the remarks hypocritical given that Trump is considered borderline obese.

“Seriously, does Trump own a mirror?” wrote an X user. “He’s grossly overweight. His hair is ridiculously in color and style. His bronzer is clownish. That suit he wears is dirty and wrinkled.”

Another X user wrote, “Trump really shouldn’t be the one saying that, considering he isn’t exactly petite.”

Trump hasn’t been shy about mocking other’s weight in the past. 

During the 2016 election campaign, he doubled down on sharing his dissatisfaction with the weight former Miss Universe Alicia Machado gained after winning the pageant, calling her “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping.”

On April 28, 2018, Trump slammed the Tester on X, which was then known as Twitter, labeling him as “very dishonest and sick” for opposing Jackson’s nomination for secretary of veterans affairs due to accusations of excessive drinking that had arisen. During a speech on the same day, Trump said he had “dirt” on Tester but never elaborated.

Twenty-four complaints from current and former colleagues were made following Trump’s first nominating Jackson in March 2018.

Tester shared his concerns about giving the reigns of the second largest government agency over to a man who was accused of making liberal use of prescription pain medications and crashing a car while intoxicated at a White House function, something Jackson has denied.

The former president defended Jackson in a series of tweets, stating that the “allegations made by Senator Jon Tester against Admiral/Doctor Ron Jackson are proving false” and that “the Secret Service is unable to confirm (in fact they deny) any of the phony Democrat charges which have absolutely devastated the wonderful Jackson family.”
