Amid Trump V.P. Speculation, Sen. Tim Scott Slammed On Social Media After Refusing To Commit To Accepting 2024 Presidential Election Results
Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) would not commit to accepting the outcome of the 2024 presidential election in a new interview. The South Carolina senator is on former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential shortlist.
On Sunday, Meet the Press host Kristen Welker asked Scott, “You voted to certify the election results of 2020. It’s the opposite of what you said and did after 2020. Why would you want to be on a ticket with someone where there’s such a fundamental difference?”
“There is clear facts here,” Scott replied. “President Trump himself said he expects this election to be fair. He expects it to be honest. And he expects to win. That’s what the presidential candidate should expect. And I expect the exact same thing. And frankly, the American people agree with him. This is an issue that is not an issue. So I’m not going to make it an issue.”
“But Senator, will you commit to accepting the election results of 2024 – bottom line?” the host asked him.
“At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump,” Scott argued. “I’m excited to get back to low inflation, low unemployment– .”
“Wait, wait, Senator, yes or no, – yes or no – will you accept the election results of 2024 no matter who wins?” Welker asked him.
“That is my statement,” he responded.
“But is it – just yes or no – will you accept the election results of 2024,” Welker asked again.
“I look forward to President Trump being the 47th president,” he stated.
“But I don’t hear you committing to the election results,” the host noted. Will you commit to accepting the election results?”
“This is why so many Americans believe that NBC is an extension of the Democratic party,” Scott argued.
“At the end of the day, I said what I said, and I know that the American people – their voices will be heard,” the senator added.
“And I believe that President Trump will be our next president,” he said. “It’s that simple.”
X users soon slammed Scott for his remarks during the interview.
“The fact that Tim Scott is refusing to say he’d follow the law and not try to overthrow the results of a free and fair election should scare anyone listening,” the government watchdog organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) wrote in an X post. “This is how democracies end.”
“Look what Trump demands to be a MAGA VP candidate,” Barry Markson, a talk show host and legal analyst, said on X. “Tim Scott destroys his reputation and credibility by refusing to say whether he will accept the results of the 2024 election despite knowing there was no evidence of fraud or corruption that changed the result of the 2020 election. MAGA is nothing but lies.”
During a town hall event held in Greenville, South Carolina, in late February, Trump revealed his list of potential vice presidential running mates, which included Scott.
On May 3, the senator posted a video on X in which he accused The View hosts of “attacking” him due to him being the only black Republican senator after cohost Sunny Hostin stated that he would not help the former president win black voters if he is chosen as his vice presidential running mate.
