Nikki Haley Slams Trump For Not Serving In The Military After Ex-President Questions Her Husband’s Whereabouts While He’s Deployed With National Guard
During a rally in Conway, South Carolina, on Sunday, Donald Trump made a jab at fellow Republican presidential campaign opponent Nikki Haley and her husband.
Haley’s husband, Major Michael Haley of the South Carolina Army National Guard, is currently deployed in the Horn of Africa. During the Saturday rally, Trump questioned Michael’s absence during her campaign, implying the couple may be having marital issues.
Trump told the crowd, “What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone! He knew.”
After Trump’s rally, Haley also had a rally in Gilbert, South Carolina. Haley defended herself and her husband against Trump’s remarks.
“I am proud of Michael’s service,” Halye said. “Every military spouse knows it’s a family sacrifice.”
In an interview with Fox News, Haley criticized Trump’s lack of military service in light of the comments, as well as his previous comments about veterans.
“The problem with Trump is he’s never been anywhere near a uniform. The closest he’s come to harm’s way is a golf ball hitting him on a golf cart.” Haley added, “What he did is disgusting. And anybody that agrees with it or says it’s okay is disgusting along with him.”
In her home state of South Carolina, Haley has mentioned Trump’s disrespect towards veterans to encourage voters to back her campaign.
In the past, Trump’s former Chief of Staff, John Kelly, confirmed Trump made shocking comments about combat veterans, calling them “losers.” During his Saturday rally,
Trump also claimed he would encourage Russia to attack NATO members who do not pay their share of the alliance’s budget.
