University Of Alabama Fans Hurl Racial & Homophobic Slurs At Texas Longhorn Players
A viral video shows homophobic and racist taunts aimed at three black Texas Longhorn players during an away game against the University of Alabama.
The video filmed the three Texas Longhorn players, Jelani McDonald, X’Avion Bruce and Quintrevion “Tre” Wisner, on the sideline dancing, celebrating the Longhorn’s 34-24 victory against Alabama. During the video, someone offscreen was seen yelling “Go back to the projects, f—–s!” at the three players.
After the post went viral, the University of Alabama released a statement.
“We are disgusted by reports of vile language and inappropriate behavior Saturday night. To be clear, we condemn this behavior and it will not be tolerated in our venues. It is not representative of UA or our values. We expect all attendees to act with class and respect towards others. Fans are strongly encouraged to report issues to our security resources on-site. Gameday and delayed reports are appropriately addressed and anyone found to be in violation of our rules and expectations will be promptly removed and may be banned from future events,” the statement read.
Angie Wisner, who was the mother of one of the players filmed, felt saddened by the slurs.
“The fact my son down there and they saying go back to the projects really just saddens my heart that as his mother no matter how old he had to listen to that! Love you Son! But the parents went through this all night! Beer cans thrown at us, water bottles, spit! Disgrace,” Wisner captioned her statement.
“Great job son blocking out all the noise. Stay humble,” he wrote.
It is unknown if the fan shouting the slurs has been identified or disciplined.
