Singer Joe Jonas and his wife, actress Sophie Turner, are divorcing after four years of marriage.

The two join a long line of celebrity splits just this summer as the singer officially filed for divorce on Tuesday in Florida, declaring their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”

The news comes as an abrupt shock to fans as the two just recently welcomed their second daughter in July of last year.

They announced their separation in a joint statement this morning via Instagram. While there has been much speculation about the reasons for their separation, the couple did not provide any further details, stating that “truly this is a united decision.”

Since the divorce proceeding became public record yesterday, there have been many claims made as to why they are divorcing.

The two reportedly have different lifestyles with Turner preferring the active nightlife while Jonas is more of a homebody.

A number of social media users expressed sympathy for Turner, who they believed to be a victim of a post-breakup smear campaign.

Jonas is pursuing shared custody of their two daughters, as indicated in the divorce paperwork. The lead singer of the Jonas Brothers has petitioned to have the children live with him in various places, including Miami, during his tour, but said in his filing that “it is in the best interests of the minor children for both parents to share parental responsibility.” The documents also mention a prenuptial agreement that Jonas anticipates will be upheld.
