On Friday, Laura Ann Carleton was shot and killed outside of her clothing and home decor store, Mag.Pi, in the Cedar Glen area of Los Angeles. She was murdered for refusing to take down an LGBTQ rainbow flag from outside her shop.

The shooter, Travis Ikeguchi, was then killed by deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office after he opened fire on them. Sheriff’s officials have reported that Ikeguchi was known for his strong anti-LGBTQ sentiments.

Moments before murdering Carleton, Ikeguchi ripped down the Pride flag and shouted homophobic slurs.
