Angelina Jolie Hires Daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt To Assist Her In Producing Broadway Show ‘The Outsiders’
Angelina Jolie hired her daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt to work as her assistant as she produces the new adaptation of The Outsiders.
Jolie shared the news in a statement about her 15-year-old daughter asserting, “Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives. She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
The Broadway show is based on S.E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders and the film created by Francis Ford Coppola. It centers on American society in the 1960s and the socioeconomic issues experienced in a gang rivalry between the upper-class people, the Socs, and a group of lower-class workers, the Greasers.
The novel was turned into a film in 1983 and featured many stars including Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillion, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez and Diane Lane.
Coppola also created a TV series that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, which was one of his very first acting roles, but the show only lasted for one season.
Jolie saw the musical at its world premiere in San Diego at the La Jolla Playhouse with Vivienne and “fell in love” with it. She also had the opportunity to meet Hinton and decided she had to join the upcoming Broadway production.

“I feel very fortunate to be a part of this special production,” she told Deadline. “I studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute where I realized my first love, as a performer, was the theatre. I had not found a way back until now. I hope to be able to contribute while continuing to learn from this amazing team, who I have been working with since my daughter brought me to see the show at La Jolla Playhouse.”
