Hannah Dominique E. John-Kamen, better known as Hannah John-Kamen, is a renowned British actress who is best known for her distinct roles as Yalena “Dutch” Yardeen in the sci-fi television series Killjoys, Ornela in the popular HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, F’Nale Zandor in Steven Spielberg’s hit sci-fi/adventure film Ready Player One and Ava Starr/Ghost in Marvel’s very own Ant-Man and the Wasp.

HANNAH JOHN-KAMEN BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

John-Kamen was born on September 7, 1989 (Hannah John-Kamen age: 33) in Anlaby, East Yorkshire, England. Her father, Johnny John-Kamen, is a Nigerian forensic psychologist, while her mother, Astri John-Kamen, is a former fashion model from Norway.

John-Kamen is the youngest of three. She has one older brother and an older sister.

During her educational years, John-Kamen studied at a primary school in Kirk Ella. In addition, she received her secondary education at Hull Collegiate School, and also spent time training at the National Youth Theatre in London. She graduated from London’s Central School of Speech and Drama in 2012.

HANNAH JOHN-KAMEN BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

John-Kamen began her professional acting career back in 2011 when she provided voice work for the video game Dark Souls. This role earned her nominations for Best Female Vocal Performance in a Video Game in a Supporting Role, as well as Best Vocal Ensemble in a Video Game.

Shortly thereafter, John-Kamen went on to make appearances in a handful of episodes in different television series, such as Misfits, Black Mirror, Whitechapel, The Syndicate and The Midnight Beast.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, John-Kamen revealed her first experience acting which made her wish to pursue it as a professional career.

“I can’t remember not wanting to do this profession, and it’s not even this profession in particular,” John-Kame said. “It’s performing and it’s being creative in general, and I can’t remember not doing it. And it’s not even like I was a young child’s actor. No, it was actually at home and I would write, I’d put on performances. I have this humongous dressing-up book. So, my mom and I would go to charity shop and I’d always pick out all these outfits and flats and shoes and big dresses and things. And anytime I had friends that would come over in primary school when I was really young when the parents came to pick them up, we’d charge them one pound-fifty entry to watch our extravaganzas. And we’d create these tickets, like glitter all over them, and they’d go on for hours. And then the parents have to be like, ‘yeah!’ But I just, I’ve done this,” John-Kamen remarked in regards to acting. “It’s in my bones, it’s in my brain, and I just can’t not do it.”

Moving on to the extremely popular HBO television series Game of Thrones, John-Kamen discussed one of her favorite memories shooting with her crew members for the film.

“I loved that show, oh my goodness,” John-Kamen exclaimed. “I remember being in Almería in Spain, and we were filming the exterior of the scene when a media car comes out and all the Dothraki’s, we all kneel. That was in Spain. And I remember just looking at, just the size of it all, I guess. It was just amazing. And, for me, because I joined later on in the season, I was only in a couple of episodes, but like it’s just become this kind of humongous machine. And then to be there and then go, ‘Oh, yeah it’s real. I can see her.’ Like that was kind of amazing,” John-Kamen reflected. “Also, learning Dothraki was very, very special. I really enjoyed that.”

When asked how she learned Dothraki, this is what John-Kamen had to say:

“So, we had a vocal voice coach and she was completely trained in all of the languages of Game of Thrones. I mean, she really broke it all down and made sense of it for me, because, you know, it’s a real conversation and it’s a script. And you don’t have a ton of time either. So, really I think maybe the other actors who have been in it for more seasons will have it more in their bones, you know, kind of the language. But for me, it was like, right, it’s not just learning lines for a script, it’s learning words, but these words mean something.”

John-Kamen currently resides in London, the place she has been since she moved there at the age of 18. She is trained in a variety of dances, including ballet, jazz, salsa, tap, and cabaret. She also enjoys playing the piano.
