Noah Cyrus, 23, has hit back at the hateful comments over her appearance following her engagement announcement to fashion designer Pinkus.

“Since I’ve announced something so pure and happy for me and my life the internet and commenters have been working so hard to take the joy, love and happiness from me,” the pop singer wrote on Thursday in two posts to her Instagram Story.

The message comes three days after some online trolls were calling her “ugly” and “commenting on my face and body as you all did when I was just 11-12 years old… when I was still forming my brain.”

Cyrus also wrote that this online criticism led to her believing she “didn’t deserve to live” while growing up. She recalled how she became suicidal and dependent on drugs as a result. But she said she is now in a place where comments can no longer cause her to hurt herself.

In a second post, Cyrus said that people need to stop judging others “for who they love, what they look like, where they come from and how THEY live THEIR lives.”

This was a significant departure from her engagement announcement post on Instagram, which featured a loving message captioning a set of photos of her with Pinkus and a picture of her engagement ring. She wrote, “Our life so far is a life I never thought I deserved or would live. I never thought I’d be looking forward to living as much as I look forward to living with you.”
