Whoopi Goldberg Scolds ‘The View’ Audience For Booing GOP Sen. Tim Scott’s Comments On Gay Rights

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), who just announced his bid for the GOP presidential nomination, was a guest on The View on Monday when things started to get out of control.

During the segment, Scott was asked about his views on racism by one of the liberal hosts, Sunny Hostin.

She specifically asked him about his opinion on systemic racism, as he is known to have a controversial take. This comes after he had a debate with cohost Joy Behar about the topic, and the hosts hoped to get more clarification on his view.

Scott went on to define systemic racism as “a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today.”

He believes that black people who are successful today are the rule and not the exception, while many liberals believe the opposite. 

Scott shut Hostin down immediately when she tried to ask him a follow him question about his views. Instead of letting her ask her question, he said, “You had your chance to ask the question. I’ve watched you on the show. You like people to be deferential and respectful, so, I’m going to do the same thing.”

Throughout the show, there was a lot of crosstalk, and the conversation was getting so tense that the hosts missed the cues for the commercial breaks. 

As the show continued, Scott got into a heated conversation with Hostin and moderator Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg tried to mediate the conversation by attempting to take a pause, but Scott was not open to this idea, telling her that he was not done and was “just getting started.” 

Scott did start to get upset by the conversation and the comments made and at one point, he got up from his seat to tell the audience that, “I believe all people can see the success that I’ve had.” 

During the segment, Scott discussed his views on the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation and said he supports Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s legislation that restricts discussions in schools about sexuality and gender.

When he voiced his opinion, many audience members started to boo him.

Scott said this is “the right issue as relates to our young kids and what they’re being indoctrinated with.” This opinion was also met with a chorus of boos from the audience. 

Goldberg got upset by this booing, even if she did not agree with Scott’s opinion. She told the audience, “We accept we don’t have to believe everything people say, but you can’t boo people here, please. You cannot do it.”
