Model Jeremy Ruehlemann has died at 27, leaving the fashion world shocked. The New Jersey native was found unresponsive in a friend’s apartment in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday. A member of his agency confirmed the news on social media.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jeremy Ruehlmann has passed away,” a representative for Soul Artist Management wrote. “Jeremy was authentically himself. Salt of the earth. There was just something about him that made you root for him.”

His cause of death has not been confirmed but his father, Achim Ruehlemann said it may have been from an accidental drug overdose. Achim told the Daily Mail that he has been fighting an addiction to prescription pills for several years.

“He did rehab and had tried to get him off prescription medication. Obviously, he was not successful,” Achim said. “There was no desire to end his life, this was accidental. Obviously, he had some issues with drug addiction but he was very happy. He loved life. He was very vibrant, a wonderful soul and a very giving guy.”

Jeremy grew up in Jersey and went to school for psychology at Rowan University before deciding to pursue modeling in 2017. He has done runway and print work, modeling for many big names including GQ, Perry Ellis, Macy’s, Superdry, Joseph Abboud and Atelier Cillian.

Many industry friends and fans flocked to the Internet to grieve the late model.

Designer Christian Siriano, whom Jeremy walked for numerous times, posted a series of photos to Instagram, calling the young man his friend and “muse.”

“I have never posted anything like this but to lose a friend who is such a beautiful soul is just really hard,” Siriano wrote. “This is for Jeremy, the most beautiful man that gave so much love to everyone he met no matter what. He was one of my muses and he always will be. He inspired me and I will love him forever.”

He continued with a message to Jeremy’s loved ones.

“I’m sending all my love to his family and friends who lost someone so special. I know we will meet again one day but right now I just want to hug him.”
