Prince Harry Says He Did Cocaine & Had A Bad Trip Off Mushrooms In New Memoir

On 60 Minutes, Prince Harry said that he was so devastated over the death of his mother Princess Diana that he took drugs such as cocaine to deal with his grief.

This admission came Sunday as Harry spoke to the media ahead of the release of his controversial memoir Spare, which is set to be released on January 10.

Anderson Cooper initially asked Harry if he blamed the British media for their role in the car crash that killed Diana in 1997.

Harry responded, “Yeah, I mean, it was obvious to us as kids the British press’ part in our mother’s misery and I had a lot of anger inside of me that luckily, I never expressed to anybody.”

He then went on to say that he resorted to heavy drinking and drugs to distract himself from the tragedy.

Harry also revealed he couldn’t cry over his mother’s death, so he experimented with hallucinogenic mushrooms and other psychedelics.

The Duke of Sussex admitted that he would never recommend people do drugs recreationally, but doing them with the right people if in a great deal of suffering may help.

He said the treatments reframed his mind, believing that he didn’t need to cry to prove that he missed his mother. She would have wanted him to work on being happy.

The memoir, which was released five days early in Spain, contained Harry’s reflections on that period in his life. “[Cocaine] wasn’t much fun, and it didn’t make me particularly happy, as it seemed to make everyone around me,” he wrote. “But it did make me feel different, and that was the main goal. Feel. Different.”

He also described his hallucinations while using magic mushrooms. “Beside the toilet was a round silver bin, the kind with a foot pedal to open the lid. I stared at the bin. It stared back. Then it became . . . a head.”

He continued, “I stepped on the pedal and the head opened its mouth. A huge open grin.”
