VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Garret Dillahunt Reveals Why He Loved Reuniting With Martha Plimpton On ‘Sprung’

Sprung, a quirky comedy from the acclaimed Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia, follows formerly incarcerated Jack who is determined to make up for his lost years by using his powers for good as he enters back into the world at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Garret Dillahunt, who plays Jack, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss reuniting with Martha Plimpton.

“We spent four seasons together on Raising Hope for the best years of my life on television,” he said. “That ended 2014, so it was a little while ago. I remained close with Martha, always wanted to work with her, but never really got or took the chance. A lot of people thought we were too indelible as those two characters and no one would be able to separate us from that. I’m glad we didn’t listen to those fears, because I think they’re unfounded. She’s so good. I count her as a dear friend. She’s one of the rare people in my life that I’ve never messed up my relationship with and I could work with her the rest of my life. She’s just baggageless, and I trust her that much. I like working with people where you can stand there and I can turn to her and say, ‘What was that? I don’t get it.’ And she’ll tell me. I don’t have to put up this front that I know everything, because I know she’s there for me. She’s a massive safety net.”

The actor also shared the small moments that contributed to his favorite scenes on the show.

“There were so many,” Dillahunt revealed. “I really liked the gigantic fight scene in the third episode. It was important to me that Jack be this sort of unconcious badass. He doesn’t want to, but, ‘Okay, here’s what I learned. I’m going to shank you now.’ I don’t get to improv neccessarily a lot on a Greg Garcia show. I’m not going to come up with something better than him and his team came up with dialogue wise, but I can improvise physically and there’s a lot of that. Coming out of the Goodwill donation box was fun and up to me and riding a little mini bike … I just like stuff like that.”

Sprung premiers on Amazon Freevee on August 19.
