U.S. Embassy Urges Americans To Avoid Tijuana & Rosarito Due To Risk Of Kidnapping & Death
The U.S. Embassy has issued a travel warning for Tijuana and Rosarito, Baja California July 4 due to the risk of kidnapping, injury or death.
The warning states there is potential for confrontations between crime organizations after the July 2 arrest of a prominent drug cartel leader.
“U.S. citizens should expect to encounter increased Mexican law enforcement presence in those areas. Criminal organization assassinations and territorial disputes can result in bystanders being injured or killed,” the travel advisory stated.
The advisory has been raised to Level 3, which means avoiding all non-essential travel to this destination. Tourists are also being told to reconsider travel plans.
Back in March, the state department issued a similar warning about crime and kidnappings and for travelers to “remain on main highways” and “avoid remote locations.”
