Elton John began his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour again on Wednesday night after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and his hip surgery. The iconic pop/rock singer performed for a sold-out show in New Orleans, playing many of his classics along with the song, “Cold Heart,” from his 2021 studio album titled The Lockdown Sessions.

Before going out on stage, John was a little nervous after not performing for two years.

“I think it feels strange for everybody who’s a performer,” John told CBS. “I’ve been to a couple of shows, and the audience goes nuts. So I’m looking forward to it from that point of view and I hope I’m not too rusty, that’s it.”

John also shared that he is excited for retirement and ready for a change.

“I want to be with my family. I mean, I’ve been touring since I was 17 in the back of a van. I’ve had the most incredible life. I’ve been so lucky, and I’ve loved every single minute of it. But I’ve had enough of that applause, and I really want … I’ll be 76 years of age when I stop touring in 2023. I want to do something different with the rest of my life.”

John will tour more than 40 arena dates in North America through April 2022 before leaving for Europe for a little while. He will return to North America for his final bow from July 15 through November 20, 2022.
