Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special The Closer has angered the LGBT community because of comments the comedian made during his show.

Chappelle’s jokes were controversial and sharply divided social media.

One of his segments was about gender and the topic of trans women being considered as a cis-born woman.

“Every human being in this room, every human being on this planet, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth. That is a fact,” Chappelle said during the special. “Now, I am not saying that to say trans women aren’t women, I am just saying that those p—ies that they got… you know what I mean? I’m not saying it’s not p—y, but it’s Beyond p—y or Impossible p—y. It tastes like p—y, but that’s not quite what it is, is it? That’s not blood, that’s beef juice.”

The comedian also talked about black celebrities being criticized for comments about the LGBT community, including rapper DaBaby, who made homophobic comments during his set at Rolling Loud Miami this past summer. “All I ask of your community, with all humility: Will you please stop punching down on my people?” Chappelle said.

The Internet was torn over Chappelle’s special. Twitter user David McNeal (@davidmc24433506) said, “Chappelle once again demonstrates that he doesn’t understand the difference between phenotypic sex characteristics and gender.”

Twitter user Aaliyah (@noluxaalia) wrote, “s—t like this is why we have to live in fear.”

Other Twitter users were happy with the Netflix special and thought The Closer was really funny, defending the comedian.

User @_hateresistant_ wrote, “I love how brother David Chapelle uses comedy to constructive criticize the LGBT Community. You can’t cancel him because of it’s “just comedy.” Wise man.”
