Fashion Brand Sues Kendall Jenner For $1.8 Million Claiming Breach Of Contract

Italian fashion brand Liu Jo is suing Kendall Jenner for breach of contract, alleging that the model failed to appear for the second of two planned photoshoots.

The legal complaint, filed on August 2, accuses Jenner, the highest-paid model in the world, of pocketing $1.35 million of the $1.5 million promised without making any effort to go to the second session.

The first shoot occurred in July 2019 and the following one was set to take place in London in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Jenner from traveling abroad.

The lawsuit said that both parties agreed to postpone the shoot until the fall, but did not agree on a date. The fashion brand alleges that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star stopped responding to messages, and they eventually “informed her that it considered her in breach of the contract and that, therefore, the contract was terminated,” according to court documents.

The company said that they turned to legal options after “having no success in obtaining a refund.”

A spokesperson for the modeling company that represents Jenner told E! News, “This suit is without merit. The Society Management, on behalf of Ms. Kendall Jenner, has continually offered Liu Jo alternative dates and locations to fulfill an agreement that was forced to be delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Jenner has willingly offered to complete services honoring her commitments.”

The complaint also said that, after agreeing to postpone the second shoot to October 2020, the fashion brand discovered that Jenner had flown to Italy in late September 2020 for another brand’s photoshoot. The model appeared in Versace ads later that year.

Liu Jo allegedly informed Jenner that “she was in breach of her obligations under the agreement” after she “continued to fail to respond to urgent requests and communications relating to the logistics” of the October 2020 shoot.

After two days, Jenner told the company that she was not in breach of her contract and that it was “impossible” for her to travel to Italy in the fall.

In the lawsuit, Liu Jo, which is seeking at least $1.8 million in damages, said, “Due to Ms. Jenner’s refusal to negotiate in good faith, Liu Jo was forced to find replacement models and restructure its entire Spring/Summer 2021 photoshoot—at great expense to Liu Jo, due to Ms. Jenner’s refusal to uphold her end of the bargain.”
