Tyler Perry has plans to pay for the funeral of Secoriea Turner, an eight-year-old girl shot and killed in Atlanta over Independence Day weekend. A spokesperson for Perry confirmed the news on Tuesday evening.

Atlanta Police confirmed that there were 11 shootings over the holiday weekend. 31 people were injured from these incidents and five of the victims died including the eight-year-old girl.

APD said that Turner, her mother and her mother’s friend were in a car and were trying to enter a parking lot when they were confronted by an armed group of people. Someone in the group opened fire on the car, hitting it multiple times and shot the eight-year-old.

Turner was immediately driven to the hospital but she later passed away.

While APD has obtained a video that shows a person of interest in the shooting of Turner, no arrests have been made yet. Police have offered a $20,000 reward for helpful information that leads to an arrest in the case.

A few weeks ago, Perry also paid for the funeral of Rayshard Brooks, a black man who was shot by police in Atlanta and died later in the hospital. Perry has plans to pay for Brooks’ children’s college tuition costs as well.

In June, Perry penned an essay about the fight against racism in the U.S. and called it exhausting. He said the essay came from processing feelings from his heart.
