Hip-hop artist Flavor Flav was fired from the rap group Public Enemy after the group performed at a Bernie Sanders rally without the rapper. On March 1, the group put out a short statement, which announced that Flavor Flav was no longer a part of the group. “We thank him for his years of service and wish him well,” read the statement. The group later clarified that the reasoning for the firing had little to do with politics, and mentioned that Flavor Flav had missed a number of performances, including a Harry Belafonte benefit concert in 2016. Despite this, the rapper took to Twitter to call out his former partner in the group, Chuck D.

However, Chuck D had a different view of the events as to why Flavor Flav was removed from the group, and took to Twitter to write his side of the story.

A few days after he was removed from the group, Flavor Flav spoke to The Guardian, clarifying that he had no issues with Sanders, but simply did not agree to a performance. “I don’t have anything against Bernie. I think he’s a good person and I wish him luck,” said the rapper.
