Miley Cyrus Rewrites Santa Baby On ‘The Tonight Show’

There’s a growing controversy over the 1944 song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Some have pointed out that with lyrics like  “I’ve got to go away … Hey, what’s in this drink?” and “The answer is no.” followed by repeated advances the song seems very manipulative today. Cleveland’s WDOK radio station even banned the song this year. But two other radio stations, KOIT in San Francisco and KOSI in Denver, tried to ban the song and ended up bringing it back after listeners demanded the song be brought back for the holiday season.

Seth Meyers first attempted to end the controversy by rewriting the song Thursday night on his show Late Night with Seth Meyers. 

“I really can’t stay,” writer Amber Ruffin sang.

“I fully respect that,” her male counterpart said and the two took a bow.

“‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ 2018, everybody!” Meyers yelled out to his audience.

But what really picked up steam was Miley Cyrus‘s revamp of “Santa Baby” that same night on The Tonight Show. The singer, who’s outspoken for liberal causes, was upset with the patriarchal view of the 1953 song.  “Am I saying that I’m gonna hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?” she asked.

However, host Jimmy Fallon told her  “do it however makes you comfortable,” and so Cyrus performed her version.

“Santa baby, I don’t need any fancy jewelry – not me,” she sang. “I’ve got something else in mind, Santa baby, and I don’t need your presents tonight.”

“Santa baby, I’ve got a baller car of my own, no loan,” she continued. “I bought it all by myself, Santa baby, with zero help from Elf on the Shelf.”

But that didn’t mean that she wasn’t afraid to ask for help. On Cyrus’s wishlist to Santa were equal pay, no sexual harassment, and no unsolicited d–k pics.

“Listen, Santa, to what I say: A girl’s best friend is equal pay,” she performed. “So, stop interrupting me when I talk, and don’t text me pictures of your… ”

“Santa baby, I’d love to know my (butt) won’t get grabbed at work,” she added, “by some ignorant jerk.”
