Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga & Other 2018 Grammy Snubs
Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga were snubbed for 2018 Grammy nominations.
2018 GRAMMY SNUBS
Nominations for all 84 Grammy categories were released on Tuesday, and among the top names were JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and SZA. There were a number of other big names, however, that were absent from the list.
Sheeran, after his last two albums earned plenty of nods, was recognized in only two categories for his third work ÷, for best pop vocal album an best pop solo performance. Lady Gaga, likewise, earned two pop category nominations for her fifth studio album Joanne, after years of dominating the charts. Lorde‘s album Melodrama is up for album of the year, but was shut out of all other categories.
Kesha released her first album in five years following a massive legal battle, but Rainbow didn’t make the cut for the top three categories. She did, however, receive nominations for best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance. The Weeknd‘s latest album, Starboy, managed to debut at No. 1 when it came out last November, but was only nominated for best urban contemporary album.
Of the names who made headlines this year for their music but will get zero recognition at the Grammys next year, the One Direction boys are some of the biggest. Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan all released singles this past year and didn’t find themselves in the nomination pool. More surprisingly, Harry Styles eponymous debut solo album did not receive a single nomination. Zayn Malik is the only former member of the boy band who’s name is featured in any category, and it is in just one for a duet with Taylor Swift for the best song written for visual media category.
That is one of Swift’s only two nomination this year. While her sixth studio album Reputation didn’t come out in time to be eligible for the awards show, her first two singles, “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready for It?,” didn’t nab any. Her other nomination is for best country song for “Better Man,” which she wrote for Little Big Town.
Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry are all powerhouses who release major albums this year, and yet none of them were nomination in any category.
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on Jan. 28 at 7:30 pm.
