Apple has officially unveiled its second scripted series, which will star Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

REESE WITHERSPOON, JENNIFER ANISTON TO STAR IN APPLE DRAMA

The drama will be set on a network morning show, and is the second full-force attempt at getting Apple into the premium television arena. Former Sony Pictures TV presidents Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg were also brought on board for the Apple Video push. The distribution platform for the series is still unknown.

The untitled drama comes from Michael Ellenberg‘s Media Res Studio, along with Aniston’s Echo Films and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. The series was highly sought after when it was announced, and Apple won the bid, signing on for two 10-episode seasons. House of Cards‘ Jay Carson will serve as the pilot writer and showrunner.

The series’ idea comes from CNN correspondent Brian Stetler‘s 2013 book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, about the rivalry between NBC’s Today show and ABC’s Good Morning America. Witherspoon and Aniston worked together previously on hit NBC show Friends. Aniston played series regular Rachel Green, while Witherspoon guest starred on multiple occasions as Rachel’s spoiler younger sister Jill.

Another Apple show in the works is a revival of Amazing Stories, guided by Steven Spielberg and Bryan Fuller. The series originally ran from 1985-1987, and was a fantasy, horror, and sci-fi television anthology by Spielberg. It was nominated for 12 Emmys, winning five, and is being rehashed for Apple.
