Shonda Rhimes and the cast of her television show Grey’s Anatomy took a knee in support of the NFL players who are protesting racial injustice.
GREY’S ANATOMY TAKES A KNEE
Rhimes posted a photo of herself and stars Ellen Pompeo, Jesse Williams, and Debbie Allen taking a knee, with some covering their hearts with their hands. “…and we took a knee in solidarity of racial justice. #takeaknee #greysanatomy #300th,” Rhimes captioned the photo.
Pompeo posted the same image, with the caption, “We kneel because we are supposed to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Williams has been outspoken about the treatment of black people and minorities for some time. When a follower suggested boycotting the ABC show, Williams clapped back. “You’ve already tried this. No one’s scared of u. Also, u follow me. #GetYourLifeTogether See u this Thursday for our season premiere at 8pm!” He also posted the full picture with the entire cast kneeling to his Instagram account.
Grey’s is not the only Hollywood team joining sports teams in taking a knee. X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny posted a similar photo of themselves on one knee on set of their reboot, while Stevie Wonder and Pharrell Williams knelt in concert over the weekend.
Grey’s Anatomy returns for its 14th season tonight with a two-hours special.
