Kanye West, Justin Bieber & Drake May All Boycott The Grammy’s

This year’s Grammy Awards ceremony will be short a few attendees, according to the latest rumors. Three prominent musicians —  Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Drake — may all boycott the Grammy ceremony this year, but not for lack of nominations. Drake and Kanye both received eight nominations, while Bieber got four nominations.

Bieber offered an explanation for his impending absence on his website, stating that he “doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.” West, who has received a total of 21 Grammys throughout his career, is reportedly upset that he never received the Grammys when he was in competition with a white singer. West also said that he may not attend the ceremony if Frank Ocean wasn’t nominated.

Ocean was not nominated this year, but it’s because he didn’t submit his last album, Blonde, for consideration. Many saw Blonde as the best album of the year, but Ocean didn’t submit because he “thinks the Grammys are a dinosaur that doesn’t represent young, black artists,” TMZ reported.

“It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from and hold down what I hold down,” Ocean told the New York Times last November.

Despite the likely absence of these three stars, there’s no anger or deeper issue at play, unlike the controversy in 2016 when the “OscarsSoWhite” protest spurred many to boycott the show.

This time, it just seems like some of the musicians view the Grammys as irrelevant and outdated.

The 59th Grammy awards will be held on February 12, and will be hosted by James Corden.
